The Heist Artist – Vish Damijha

IMG_20190324_122707_068.jpgIt had all the elements of Vish Damijha’s work. The suspense built up in each chapter, attention to detail and the unexpected twist in the end were all there. Only thing missing was the courtroom drama that I have come to expect in every Vish Damijha book. But it was a fantastic read nonetheless.

The story line is interesting and the narrative was simple and easy to follow. I could visualize the author’s thoughts while reading it. There were punches at the right places to make the book all the more entertaining. The chase was thrilling to read. Of course it could be made into a movie as well.

Vagh Pratap Singh aka Captain is a conman who is in the hiding after having smuggled some weapons. A heist project comes his way and he dons the role of an art professor in Delhi for it. Uddham Kumar, a politician/goon wants the very famous Poppy Flowers painting by Vincent Van Gogh which is rumoured to be in India. So he hires the Captain to find the painting and to steal it. He appoints Sylvia, who does detective work for him to monitor the Captain. Uddham does not trust the Captain and wants to kill him once he acquires the painting. So he sends one of his men Damodar along with Sylvia to accompany the Captain on the heist.

Once the Captain acquires the painting, does he escape from Uddham and his goons and other search parties who wants to have the 200 hundred million dollar painting is very thrilling to read. It gives adrenaline rush to follow the theft and the chase after.

I highly recommend it if you like reading crime fiction. It is riveting and makes you want to finish it to know the ending. I got the feels of reading false impressions and honor among thieves by Jeffrey Archer. Thank you Writers melon and Vish Damijha for the complimentary copy of the book. It was a Solid 5 stars read for me.

Killing time in Delhi – Ravi Shankar Etteth

IMG_20190317_201714_739.jpgAfter reading Brahmin by Ravi Shankar Etteth, I was excited to read Killing Time in Delhi. Well the author definitely impressed with this new rich guy caught up in a murder story. It was totally different from his previous work. It was an Intriguing read. Right from the cover it keeps you guessing what is going to happen next. I enjoyed reading it because it had not one but two two deaths in the first chapter and the whole story kind of revolves around it.
Chaitanya Seth who likes to be called Charlie is very rich. There’s so much money that he doesn’t work. His girlfriend Rita dies of drug overdose in his house. Charlie trusts his servant Chow to take care of it and goes to a party for his alibi. But unfortunately he gets caught up in another murder at the party. Now, Charlie is made to depend on Mandy and Shamsher the guruji who tries to build up an ashram. He couldn’t help but trust Mandy though he is suspicious about her. So he goes in search of his only long lost relative to help him get out of this mess. Does he find the truth and gets out of the murder case is the rest of the story.
The author introduces us to a whole world of Delhi rich parties, drugs, vengeance, affairs, dead bodies in the closet, beautiful flash backs of long lost love, disloyal servants and money scheming swamiji. I would recommend it if you are looking for something different and light. There is no gripping sadness because of the murders. So it’s not dark. The ending was unexpected which made the whole book enjoyable to read. I would rate the book a big 4 stars. Thank you writers melon for the review copy. It was a great pleasure once again to be associated with you guys.

Heart broken musings – Raunak Agarwal

IMG_20190316_232932_087.jpgFirst things first. The cover is unique and impressive. The book has 51 beautiful chapters of poems, quotes and rants on life. He calls the readers as hoomans and his love for unicorns is evident in the book. The highlight of the book is definitely the musings at the end of each chapter which clearly explains the author’s thoughts. Sometimes we tend to read too much between the lines. These author’s notes help us to understand what he exactly wants to convey.
It is not very preachy. The author hits the nail on the head with his sarcastic views. He covers various topics in this book. I personally liked the one where he appreciates the strength of women, fumes over the inequality. He also stresses on how True love needs to be beyond lust.
My most favorite one is Envy You! I found it very inspiring and intend to follow it. The language is simple and crisp. You can easily connect with the content. I would definitely recommend it to everyone. It is something different in the non-fiction genre. I enjoyed the sarcastic humor of the author. I would rate it 4/5. Thank you Raunak Agarwal for the opportunity to read and review your work.
